What is Mountain Vortex?

Mountain Vortex is run by a fun, tongue-in-cheek group of friends from England, we have over 40 years experience of skiing and snowboarding (and sledging! – love a sledge battle) between us. We are not professional skiers or snowboarders, just enthusiasts with a love of snow-sports and the mountains.

After many ski trips around Europe, and constantly sending links to each other of videos and pictures of crazy, cool, fun ski and snowboard related posts, Mountain Vortex owner, Shelton, thought ‘why don’t we create our own hub for us and others to share all these ski and snowboard clips’. In 2016 we set to work creating the site, in 2017 we launched it.

Why the name ‘Mountain Vortex’ ?

Initially we called it ‘Snowsports Vortex’ but during development of the site, the name just didn’t sit right. Although we are mainly a ski/snowboard website, we also wanted to make sure that it covered all mountain related activities such as sledging, walking, wingsuit flying etc.

So that was that, the name was changed to ‘Mountain Vortex’, but why vortex?

“A vortex is a swirling mass of energy revolving around an axis”

Imagine the center of the Mountain as the axis, when you’re flying down a mountain, it’s pure adrenaline. You and everyone around you are going down and around the mountain with so much energy and excitement. It’s this, the raw fun-filled buzz. The wind freezing your cheeks, the loss of feeling in your finger tips kicking in, but at that moment it doesn’t matter, the mountain has you. You’re in a Mountain Vortex.
